Canadian Music Week Shines the Spotlight on China
March 11 - 14, 2009 in Toronto

Canadian Music Week (CMW) is the official meeting ground for those who truly shape the future of the music, entertainment and broadcast industries. Industry leaders from around the world will converge March 11 - 14, 2009 in Toronto to tackle the hottest issues facing the music business today.

Canada’s premiere music industry conference, awards and festival features the CMW International Marketplace, the B2B trade destination of choice for buyers from across the globe ready to do business with export-ready Canadians.

This year, the spotlight is on China. The world's largest market and fastest-growing economy is opening up. Canada is on the ground floor. CMW president Neill Dixon elaborates, “CMW hosts thirty music industry professionals from China, Hong Kong and Taiwan to discuss potential opportunities for Canadians in the Chinese market. This in-depth focus will provide delegates with an insider's look at the Chinese music market through panels and networking opportunities”.

In China the music business model has already been completely re-written and opportunities abound for Western resources to help China develop a strong domestic music business. Moreover, the diversity of market friendly repertoire means those Canadian companies and artists who are willing to devote time and energy to exploit the opportunities will be the first to benefit. CMW is offering Chinese and Canadian delegates the opportunity to expand their business and meet future business partners.

China's pre-eminent and groundbreaking music industry professionals represent all sectors of the music business: digital, touring, music production, record companies, marketing and publishing. As part of Spotlight on China, CMW is partnering with Music Matters, The Asia Pacific Music Forum and in association with SWAT Enterprises to bring the best programming possible. The Spotlight on China is made possible with the support of the Ontario Media Development Corporation (OMDC) through the Entertainment and Creative Cluster Partnerships Fund grant.

Other trade missions confirmed thus far include the United Kingdom in partnership with UKTI (United Kingdom Trade & Investment) and AIM (The Association of Independent Music, UK) as well as a substantial delegation of buyers from Japan.

The International Marketplace at CMW is sponsored by the Ontario Development Media Corporation, in partnership with Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada, the Canadian Independent Record Production Association (CIRPA) and the Canadian Association for the Advancement of Music & The Arts (CAAMA).

Canadian Music Week is Canada's leading annual entertainment event dedicated to the expression and growth of the country's music, media and entertainment industries.  Combining four information-intensive conferences; a trade exposition; a film festival; four awards shows and the nation's largest New Music Festival – Canadian Music Fest - CMW spans a four-day period from March 11 to March 14, 2009 at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel and various downtown Toronto venues, attracting participants from across the globe.  For more information, visit www.cmw.net.
