City Sonic Partnership First CIMA Sign-up

First Film Company to join CIMA/CIRPA

Toronto, October 15, 2009 – CIMA, the Canadian Independent Music Association (formerly CIRPA) is pleased to welcome City Sonic as both our first official member since our name change and also our first ever film production company to become a member.  The ground breaking inscription of the partnership was announced at CIMA’s inaugural AGM on September 29th.

“We are extremely happy and excited about the possibilities of working in a multi-media environment with one of Canada’s most progressive film and TV production partnerships. This will allow acts developed in Canada to expand their reach both here and abroad,” remarked Duncan McKie, CIMA President.

City Sonic is a co-production of White Pine Pictures and Kensington Communications, two of Canada's most respected television production companies. Janice Dawe, Vice President of White Pine Pictures, sees a bright future for this kind of cooperation, “We hope this will allow artists to connect with fans in an entirely new way, with a combination of video, music and stories in a portable format.”

Robert Lang, President of Kensington Communications speaks of intentions to develop the project further over the next year, starting with Montreal and Vancouver.

City Sonic is a cross-platform music documentary series developed for web, mobile, and TV. The project was developed by City Sonic with the participation of CIMA (originally CIRPA), the OMDC, the Bell New Media Fund and the Telus Innovation Fund.

At the core of City Sonic is a series of short films about some of Canada's best musical artists shot in places where their lives and careers were transformed. City Sonic creates a new level of engagement with the city's music scene through location specific storytelling, related content on the artists and venues and links to purchase music. The mobile component includes a music scavenger hunt game built around the iPhone's GPS and mapping functionality.
