Canadian Blast Hits CMJ 2008! October, 22, 2008 in New York
In this second annual music trade mission to Japan, 19 Canadian music companies, representing hundreds of Canadian artists and sound recordings, will be undertaking an initiative led by the Canadian Independent Record Production Association (CIRPA) to develop trade relations and new business opportunities with the Japanese and Pan-Asian music industry from November 10th – 14th.
This is a Showcase and Celebration of Canadian Music Excellence in L.A. on Feb.5, 2009 on the occasion of the 51st Annual GRAMMY Awards®.

Launched in 2006, Music Matters is conducted in the heart of the world's most dynamic region and is Asia's only annual conference dedicated to the business of music. The event was created with & for the Music industry, bringing together major players from the entertainment eco-system to discuss, debate, do business and watch some of the hottest up and coming acts in Asia.

MUSEXPO takes place April 26 - 29, 2009 in West Hollywood, California.
Celebrating its fifth year this September 15th – 17th, the Canadian Music Café is the place where film and music meet, providing a platform for Canadian artists to showcase their talent. The annual event takes place at the Hard Rock Cafe during the Toronto International Film Festival and features 15 artists over three days performing for music supervisors/executives, producers, directors and media from around the world. The Canadian Music Café presents all genres of music to the decision-makers of the international film community. In The City, the UK's music industry convention, will take place on 18th - 20th October 2009 in Manchester, England. As the third largest music market in the world, the UK accounts for 10.5% of global music sales and carries huge worldwide influence - and In The City is one of the best opportunities to develop and maintain UK contacts. For artists, ITC has the highest signing ratio of any similar event throughout the world and has helped launch the careers of Radiohead, Arctic Monkeys, Suede, Friendly Fires, Coldplay, Doves, Foo Fighters, Daft Punk, The Wombats, Elbow, Muse and many, many more. Canadian artists are being encouraged to apply to ITC as the organisers will be looking to extend the opportunities for international bands at this year's event. Hong Kong’s Lan Kwai Fong Entertainment District will be transformed into Canadian Blast! Asia on May 27, 28 and 29 as five of the best new Canadian acts perform for the Asian Music Industry and Hong Kong’s voracious music lovers.
The Canadian Independent Music Association (CIMA) is pleased to announce the Canadian Mission to Music Matters: The Asia Pacific Music Forum. A delegation of 5 artists, 6 companies and a total of 23 Canadians will attend Asia’s premier annual conference and associated music festival in Hong Kong. CIMA is proud to announce its second ever Canadian Blast showcase at the bi-annual New Skool Rules conference, to be held April 4-7 in Rotterdam. Confirmed to showcase on April 6th at Da Unie in Rotterdam are Devon Tracey, Blake Carrington, Shaun Boothe, Son Real, Famous and Rich Kidd, and DJ Nana will be the resident DJ for all acts. CIMA will also be hosting a VIP reception before the showcase, as well as hosting a panel about the Canadian urban music market, and offering discounted registration to the conference, including hotel packages through the festival.
CIMA is also excited to announce its first ever off-venue Canadian Blast showcase at Jazzahead in Bremen, Germany. Held on April 26th at Club Moments, the showcase will feature Laila Biali, L'Orkestre de Pas Perdus, Sienna Dahlen and Elizabeth Shepherd. Canadians Chet Doxas, Shuffle Demons, Chloe Charles and Marianne Trudel will also be performing through Jazzahead. We are launching a Canadian Blast Showcase series to begin in December for Canadian export-ready artists. Working with Joel C. High of Creative Control Entertainment, Canadian Blast showcases will be presented during lunchtime at Hotel Café in Los Angeles. CIMA, with support from the Ontario Media Development Corporation, held a showcase series in 2010/11 for Ontario companies and their artists. Jim Cuddy of Blue Rodeo, Hawksley Workman, The Trews, Timber Timbre, Dan Mangan and Lily Frost performed to key film/television and music licensing executives.
CIMA is proud to announce a new initiative in Europe, titled 'Canadian Blast Presents'. After recently presenting shows for 'Iceland Airwaves' in Reykjavik and 'In The City' in Manchester, we are now headed to Dubai Soundcity (Nov.3-7) where Canadian Blast Presents Dan Managan & Kae Sun. Jets Overhead from Victoria, British Columbia, has been added to this year’s line-up at the 5th annual Canadian Music Café, September 15th – 17th. For six years, the band of five has played for audiences in North America and Europe. Their sound is ambient/rock, their label is indie and their influences include the likes of Pink Floyd and The Velvet Underground. With a new album titled No Nations, the group is on a cross-Canada tour in support of The Dears. Jets Overhead will join performers Amy Millan, Arkells, The Duhks, Emma-Lee, Hawksley Workman, Jason Bajada, The Mountains and the Trees, Ruby Jean and the Thoughtful Bees, Saukrates, Spiral Beach, Stef Lang, Terri Clark, USS and Winter Gloves. These artists will have the opportunity to showcase their unique sounds to American and Canadian music supervisors and film industry delegates at the 34th Toronto International Film Festival. Live performances run daily at the Hard Rock Cafe, 279 Yonge Street, between 1-5 p.m.

For the first time in years, CIMA will be heading to the World Music Expo in Copenhagen from October 26 - 31. On Friday, October 28th in Conference Room 4, CIMA will hold a special speed networking session, inviting international delegates to meet our buyers in attendance. This will be in addition to the 'Canada Alley' co-sponsored by the Canada Council, CINARS and Folquebec. In addition, we have one featured showcase at WOMEX, Global Cafe and Stone Tree Recording Artist Kobotown. Folquebec will also host at off WOMEX showcase, with details to be announced.

And with The Cavern, Lux, Lan Kwai Fong Beer Bar and Backstage playing host to such an astonishing number of musical outfits, we’ve highlighted a few bands that we think you shouldn’t miss. Whoever you see, you shouldn’t be disappointed – particularly because it’s all free.
CIRPA, in partnership with Pop Montreal and the Government of Canada, hosted an Industry Mixer on October 2nd during Pop Montreal. The Mixer served as a meeting point where participating international delegates from Australia, Belgium, Brazil, France, Germany, Norway, Spain and the USA could mingle with Canadian music company reps.
CIMA's Canadian Blast returns to SXSW in 2013
Once again, CIMA will be bringing its Canadian Blast brand to the SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas in 2013. Widely recognized as a vitally influential festival, SXSW provides enormous opportunity for international exposure to tens of thousands of delegates from around the world. The Showcase and Celebration of Canadian Music Excellence took place in Los Angeles on February 5, 2009 at the residence of the Consul General, . The event was presented by Sirius Satellite Radio in partnership with CIRPA, DFAIT, The Province of Ontario, LCI Associates, CBC Radio3 and ET Canada. Hosted by CBC’s Grant Lawrence and ET Canada's Rick Campanelli, the event honouring Canadian Grammy nominees and winners featured performances by Jenn Grant, Shad and Plants and Animals. CIMA is currently soliciting for showcase performance slots at Canada Day London 2013, held on Monday July 1st in Trafalgar Square. Canada Day London is the largest Canada Day celebration outside of Canada, with just under 100,000 attendees in 2012. Now in its 8th year, it has become a premier showcase and performance opportunity for Canadian acts. CIMA is soliciting for up-to 4 showcase performances, with performances to be staged between 12-2 pm in the afternoon and 6-7 pm in the evening.
The selections will be made by CIMA's Talent Selection committee and all performance opportunities are eligible showcases in terms of funding organizations. Canada Day London will provide internal ground transportation, accommodation, meals on the day and all backline and technical requirements. As Canada Day London is a community event, it is not able to offer a fee. There is also no radius clause to perform on the square, so artists are encouraged to seek extra opportunities in the UK and EU.
Applications will open Wednesday, November 14 and close on Friday, February 1, 2013. Only successful applicants will be notified, by Friday March 1, 2013 with the line-up announcement to follow in early April 2013.
